Earthdance Yoga is Nature Yoga, a series of hatha yoga asanas or postures developed by Roxanne Kamayani Gupta incorporating “Yoga of the Elements” and “Yoga of the Emotions. Earthdance Yoga is practiced at Cayuga Sunrise in a beautiful, restful surrounding, amidst the natural elements. It expands one’s consciousness of nature. It is healing to lay on the ground, to open your eyes in the sunlight, walk under the stars, breathe into the wind, hug a tree.

Earthdance Yoga begins with Sunrise Yoga: Surya Namaskar or Salutation to the Sun, practiced early in the morning bathed in the sun’s first rays, is one of the most powerful yogic exercises practiced around the globe.The sun is greeted with 12 Surya Namaskars complete with traditional mantras (Sanskrit invocations) on our deck overlooking Cayuga Lake. Participation is open to all our guests.

A private Earthdance Yoga session uses a series of asanas particular to your own body and psychology to invoke each of the five elements.You will explore your own response to each element to foster an inner balance, culminating in a meditation on the unity of self and nature. Whenever possible these sessions will be held out of doors in a location on our grounds that feels right to you. Earthdance Yoga involves not only particular postures, but more importantly, a “moving” response to the immediate environment.
